My heart goes out to Vern for Eds passing...RIP Ed

Ed was a hell of a guy and was always available for consultation. I have been a regular at the Rock Store for over 35 years and for a time lived across the street from it.  Ed will be missed dearly....RIP

ABOUT

Ed and Vern (Veronica) Savko moved to Southern California from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania after WWII. They stumbled across this building, made entirely out of volcanic rock, which had been a stagecoach stop in the 1910's. They purchased this "Rock Store" in 1961 and created a small town grocery store out of it. As the years rolled by, many changes were taking place in this town of Cornell, California.

Cornell started growing in population, which forced the development of major roadways connecting Mulholland Highway to the Pacific Coast. As people started flocking to this area, more and more people started taking notice of this small town store. Not only were carloads of people stopping by for cold refreshments, but motorcyclists began pouring in from all directions. They were drawn to the windy canyon roads and, of course, the opportunity to really test out their riding skills.
As more and more people began frequenting this pit stop it became a landmark institution for the avid motorcyclist community. Ed and Vern have built a reputation for the Rock Store as one of the top tourist destinations, and a hang out for the "who's who" of the motorcycling world. The Rock Store is the most famous motorcycle stop in Southern California, if not the world, and has been featured in many commercials, films, music videos, television productions and magazine photos.
Among the attractions are the rustic settings, celebrity sightings, hundreds of bikes to look at and the food and drinks. The Rock Store is most popular for their hefty breakfasts, BBQ tri-tip sandwiches, teriyaki chicken sandwiches, homemade chili and more and don't forget those ice cold beverages.
On any given weekend you can stop by and chat with the celebrities who frequent the Rock Store. There is always the interest of Jay Leno and "what is he going to ride up on today?" Jay enjoys bringing up any one of his latest toys so that everyone can see it. You can usually find him in the parking lot talking amongst the people. He'll be the first one to show you under the hood of his new truck, or help someone with repairs on their bike. Arnold Schwarzenegger often pops his head in for a quick bite, before spinning off into the canyons. Matt LeBlanc, Tommy Lee, Harrison Ford and others can be spotted hanging out on the patio with "friends." You really never know who you are going to see walk through the front door.
Stop by and chat with Ed and Vern over breakfast in our rustic restaurant or a BBQ lunch and beer on our patio. They truly have created the most biker friendly place in the universe.
Hello out there in Chopper Ville. It has been some time since my last post but there has been a lot going on. Not that I haven't been lapse in my responsibilities to the blogosphere, but there are some things more important than my PC.
It's gonna start getting real busy around here, I have a lot of irons in the proverbial fire and I intend to share it all with you, my loyal followers.
Hopefully before BORN FREE I will have my bff Doug's bike up and running, including all the chrome and polish and all the painting and striping. That's a lot to accomplish by itself but I also have to repair my blown up turbo KZ, repaint my Freakshow so I can get her sold and begin construction of the last hurrah...My crazy 40" upstetched to hell , completely molded Ironhead!!!
So stick around and you'll see a lot of updates to these and other projects.

On another note, last weekend I took a trip over to Slim's Fab Pharm and took him Dougs parts to go to the chrome shop. He has someone doing his plating now where he gets great rates, but it's a secret...shhhhhhhh.
He also has this awesome polisher kat who gets the fucking job done.

A Man and his Fab Pharm, the other worldly almost famous Slim!!!

Here is the some of the work he was doing the day I was there. That's a rubber mount Sporty with one of Slim's custom hardtails, fender mounts, oil tank. He puts a nice nitch in the top of the bag to hold all those nasty electrics. Yet to come are the sissy bar, battery box, seat mount and other stuff.

This is my motor for my long bike project coming up. Notice these cases in comparison to the ones done by Slim's polisher guy below.

2 more Slim productions, that's an XS with one of Slim's one off springers and hand made frames. Notice the trick pipes and the 2x1 intake manifold. Slim don't fuck around.

Here the kind of bike he was known for, this one has an RD 350 motor in it called Dirtnap.

Dougies parts before chrome

Just so you know, the cam cover is actually chromed! The polish quality is so good you can hardly tell the difference. OOOOOOHHHH  AAAAAHHH !!!!
